The Duo STOUT is on the mission to renew and extend Irih Folk with a fresh appproach and still keep the soul and essence of the time-honoured as well as the modern tracks and let them live on. In doing so, the two create their own sound between tradition and modernism, between folk and many other genres: Irish Folk Redefined!

Recording diary day 7

Hello again!

Here’s a quick summary of our last day in Béa’s studio.

We still had a few small things to do for our second ballad although we were completely exhausted from the week. Anyway we patiently cut instrumental tracks and recorded vocals. All this went down well and the mood stayed high. After the song was cut we were satisfied and started a final listening of all tracks of the week.

This turned out to be a very big project and hence we reheard, controlled, cut and finished the tracks until 7p.m….

But after that it was: Shutdown the computer, week is done, STOUT and Béa are happy and satisfied. To really bring the week to a good close, two things were left to do:

  • Listening through all tracks without controlling pressure on the big stereo. After that we can say we are very pleased, very proud and are much obliged to Béa!!!

  • Dinner!!!

A last time we say adieu from the studio! (for this year…)

Recording diary day 6

Heya!

And here we go again with our little recording-diary. After two fabulous days it was now saturday to start with. And it began as every folker likes it: breakfast. After this we went to our mics and warmed up properly because a reel-set was on the schedule.

We did the set like it had proven good before: We played a few takes until we felt having some good ones. How one of the musicians made notes about his takes can be seen in the picture below. He pretends on knowing what to do with this…

Tunes Takes Popcorn

It also went down quite well although it took a good amount of time. In the end we have a nice set that we’re quite proud of.

After this we had a lunch/dinner break. And here’s our compliment to the three chefs, it was absolutely delicious.

The calmed and relaxed mood after the meal was used for our second ballad. The instrumental tracks were taped quickly. Béa stated that this was our only song in which we more likely had to watch for not hanging behind the beat than running before it. Hence it should sound relaxed 🙂

Today it’s voices for the song and listening through all recordings. As you might guess, we espacially look forward to the second thing.

We wish you all a nice day and a merry third advent!
